How to unclog a clogged drain in simple steps?

Is the water in your kitchen or bathroom sink draining slowly? In the shower, are you up to your ankles in water? If this is the case, it may be time to treat the clog that has been growing in your pipes. Before hiring a plumber, try the following methods to clean a blocked drain.

Examine it out

1. Baking soda, vinegar, and other home remedies for clogged drains

Many people are aware of baking soda and vinegar methods. Pour some hot water down the blocked drain, then add equal parts baking soda and vinegar (baking soda first), cover the drain with a plug if you have one, let it rest for 20-30 minutes, and then flush with additional hot water to eliminate the blockage. The chemical reaction is supposed to exert pressure and corrosive action on the impediment, breaking it down and clearing the pipe. However, other experts argue that the pressure exerted has little effect on the blockage since it is permitted to leave via the open drain. They think that the sole factor affecting the blockage is hot water. However, they feel that baking soda should be avoided in metallic pipes since it might damage the surface. As a result, utilize your best judgment. Some DIY drain cleaner is here:

Baking soda and salt – Pour equal portions of each down the drain, wait 20-30 minutes, then flush with hot water.

• Vinegar, salt, and lemon – Combine equal parts salt and vinegar in a basin, then add half a part lemon juice and pour the combination down the drain. Allow it to rest for 20-30 minutes before rinsing with hot water.

Salt & hot water – Pour at least a half cup of salt followed by hot water down your drain, then rinse with additional hot water.

Because of its abrasive and antibacterial characteristics, salt is utilised to unclog drains, cleaning your pipes and absorbing microorganisms.

2. Clogged drains: Clothes hanger, closet auger, or drain snake

You’ve probably heard about this tactic as well. You may fish around in your pipe for the impediment causing the clog by straightening out a clothes hanger and making a little hook on the end. A closet auger or drain snake, which can often reach deeper down the pipe with more flexibility, may be obtained at your local hardware shop and utilized in a similar manner.

3. Clogged drains: wet & dry vacuum

You may try sucking the clog out using a wet and dry vacuum. Before you start on your vacuum, set it to “wet” and make a tight seal between the blocked drain and the suction arm extension.

Is it still not working? Drains may be difficult to unclog. Stay tuned for our upcoming blog, on how to clear a clogged drain in 7 simple steps | part ii.
